Asterisk Appliance Developers Kit - Release 0.2.0
=================================================

This CD contains various components of the AADK. They are:

aadk-0.2.0.tar.bz2 (software components)
recovery (directory, contains flash memory recovery images)
S800i_Users_Manual_2.pdf (S800i Appliance user's manual)
GUI_Reference_Manual_051.pdf (Reference manual for the Asterisk GUI)
DigiumSupportedApps.txt (list of officially supported applications)
AADKTermsConditions.pdf (terms and conditions that apply to the AADK)

Software Installation
=====================

The AADK software kit consists of nearly 500,000 files that comprise
about 5.0GB of disk space. It is advisable to install it onto a system
with at least a moderately fast disk subsystem and filesystem. The kit
contains a number of components, including Asterisk 1.4, a snapshot of
the Asterisk GUI (which is in alpha testing), the Das u-Boot
bootloader, the GNU compiler toolchain (gcc/binutils/etc.) and uClinux
(based on the Blackfin uClinux distribution from
http://blackfin.uclinux.org).

Unpack the AADK tarball into any location you desire; it does not
require any special permissions or directory structure. After
unpacking the tarball, you will find a README file in the directory
that was created which will tell you how to build the toolchain and
other AADK components.

This AADK software kit is actually a checkout from the Digium
Subversion repository located at http://svn.digium.com, which means
you can update it as the master repository is updated with
changes. You will need to have at least version 1.2.0 of Subversion
installed on your host computer, and a simple 'svn update' command in
the top-level directory of the AADK will perform a complete
update. This will requires Internet access and the ability to contact
the Digium Subversion server via HTTP on port 80. It will also likely
require somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes to do a complete update,
as the AADK contains a very large number of files. If your network has
an HTTP proxy that cannot understand the WebDAV methods that
Subversion uses, there is a method to use port 8080 instead, but this
will require modifying the checkout that has been provided for you. If
you experience this problem, contact the AADK Support department and
they will assist you.

When portions of the AADK have been updated, you may be given
instructions on how to update only those portions, in order to save
time performing the update.

Licensing
=========

Every component of the AADK contains its own license information. For
software components, there will generally be a LICENSE file in the
top-level directory of that component. For documentation, the license
and copyright information is contained in the document itself.

Known Limitations
=================

1) The uClinux distribution build process requires that 'gawk' be
present on the host computer. If your Linux distribution provides GNU
awk but does not provide a symlink or copy of the awk binary named
'gawk', please create a symlink in some suitable location in the
search path.

2) Your host system will require the 'texinfo' package to be
installed, because various parts of the uClinux distribution use the
'makeinfo' tool to produce man pages and other documentation files.

3) The MultiMediaCard slot on the S800i is currently non-functional;
placing an card into this slot will cause any installed S110M or S400M
(FXS) modules to be non-operational.

AADK Wiki
==========

There is an AADK Support wiki available at:
http://aadk.digium.com

This wiki contains a significant amount of valuable support
information and should be the first place you normally look
for answers to questions and resolution of issues. The wiki
contains a variety of useful documents, tips and hints, as
well as a variety of links to external web resources.

Named Support Contacts of AADK customers may request from
Digium Technical Support a user account on this wiki so that
they can modify and add new information. Please note that the
GNU Free Document License applies to all information you submit
to the Wiki, so please do not submit any proprietary information.
Qualified users are encouraged to add information to the wiki
as they gain experience and find solutions to issues with the kit.

Mailing Lists
=============

There is a mailing list dedicated to the use of Asterisk on embedded
platforms; it is the 'asterisk-embedded' list located at
http://lists.digium.com. AADK users can use this list to discuss
general topics related to Asterisk and the platform, but should not
use it for technical support issues as the AADK Support team will
generally not respond to support issues posted on the mailing list.

There is also a mailing list to monitor changes (commits) to the AADK
source code repository; it is the 'aadk-commits' list located at
http://lists.digium.com. AADK users are strongly encouraged to
subscribe to this list to be kept aware of changes that are made to
the AADK software components.
